Arabic speakers have a secret advantage. You’re used to gendered nouns, verb conjugations, and sounds that many learners find terrifying. So which languages will feel like a shortcut? Here are our top picks.

Easiest Languages to Learn for Arabic Speakers

1. Spanish: the friendliest start

Spanish is our top pick, and history is on your side. Thousands of Spanish words come from Arabic, including aceite (oil), azúcar (sugar), almohada (pillow), and more. You’ll feel like you’ve met some of them before.

The sounds help too. Spanish spells words almost exactly as they sound, and the Spanish j is close to the Arabic خ. Rolling your r? You’ve got that covered.

The one catch is the “p” sound, since Arabic doesn’t have it. A few weeks of practice fixes that.

2. Italian: familiar rhythm, gorgeous payoff

Italian is as phonetic as Spanish, and it has a bonus: double consonants. Arabic speakers already know this idea from the shadda, so Italian “double letters” (like pizza or nonno) come naturally. A few Italian words, like zucchero (sugar) and arancia (orange), also trace back to Arabic.

3. French: easier than its spelling suggests

French is spoken across North Africa and Lebanon, so you may already hear it around you. The French r sits close to the Arabic غ, and grammatical gender won’t surprise you at all.

The honest challenge is spelling: silent letters and nasal vowels take practice. That’s exactly where a good teacher saves you months. Our French classes focus on pronunciation first, so reading follows naturally.

Bonus: Turkish and Persian

Both are worth a look. Turkish uses the Latin alphabet, has no grammatical gender, and borrowed many words from Arabic. Persian is written in a modified Arabic script and also has lots of Arabic vocabulary. Curious about either? Ask us what’s currently available.

Harder, but worth it: Japanese and Mandarin

These are tougher, since Mandarin has tones and Japanese has three writing systems. But you’ve already mastered a non-Latin script, so you’re better equipped than most. If the goal is a career edge, try our Japanese classes or Mandarin classes.
